I consider myself very frugal with most things. Whenever I buy something I’m always researching everything and trying to get the best deal, etc.

I was just wondering if anyone could mention something they do to save money that is funny or interesting or something that I might have never thought of. Thanks.
U… that is hilarious, I’m definitely not that frugal. Thanks for your answer. See, her husband is a lawyer, and they probably have money. I’m telling you, alot of rich people got rich by watching every dollar and being cheap.
Peggy K, it seems like you definitely have the right idea. You must have read some of Suze Orman’s stuff, or your parents taught you financial responsibility growing up.
LOL @ Misty… you just list a bunch of products and stuff, but you don’t say anything about them, funny. Are you saying these are the items you always try to save money on?

I know conventional wisdom tells us to save our money for a rainy day or for retirement, but where should we draw the line? None of us are living forever. Any one of us can go at any time, and I’d hate to leave this world with a ton of money in the bank. So what’s the best way to deal with this dilemna?

I plan on buying a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. The cost is $23,000. I was planning to walk-in with $19,000 and take it off the lot. Is this possible or not realistic because of my amount is too low and the dealer would be hell-bent on financing. What’s a realistic amount then?

I’m not trying to come off as arrogant, but I don’t want to deal with financing and paying interest on a car and car notes. I have a strict, well-disciplined saving strategy at my age 24. I’ve been able to save up money from my job, to pull this off and still have a security blanket of money left for worst-case scenarios.

Here is the deal, the past two years I’ve been busting my butt working full time. I’m 22, live alone, very minimal.(Live in a small studio downtown Portland, Oregon, take the bus, don’t eat very much, not into expensive hobbies, don’t eat out, don’t go to clubs). I’m currently going to school part time on student loans. Somehow I managed to save $30,000. I currently have 20,000 in a cd and the rest in a savings account. I currently work full time, making pretty crappy money, but about 60% pays my bills and I save the other 40%. My social life is becoming more active and I’m dating a lot more. A lot of my friends live with their parents and have more money to blow. Since I have no family or support, my money is my only backup during bad times or job loss. From a mature point of view, what is a safe amount of money to save. I know more is better, but I’m 22 and don’t really have much and I want to start enjoying my life a little more. At what point do I say okay I have enough money in my bank account, I will contribute a little each week and have a little more fun and treat myself for my hard work

Any advice is appreciated.

Ok here is the deal, i have a 2004 Silverado. I got it for $10,900 with 25000 miles on it 1 year and a half ago. Im a single male at 23 so with Insurance i pay $446 a month and have been since i got the truck. Well my mother has a 2002 Grand Prix GT that she just payed off, it has 65000 miles on it. It looks like a family car, my truck is pimped out with a lot of stuff on it. My father would like to pick up my truck payments and insurance and i take my mother’s PAID for car and pay her insurance that is about $170 per 6 months vs. my $120 a month myself.

Should i dump the $446 a month im paying now and take the family car. Save my money (ill be able to put back about $700 a month now) and just eventually buy myself something with about $10000 in my hand or just continue to keep the truck which i rather dislike, i just bought it cause my car tore up and i saw a great deal? Im not sure what to do, but i could save for a year or so and get something better, cheaper. Plz Advise?

He is not retarded, mentally handicapped nor challenged. He does not suffer from any mental illness far as I know (nothing very severe.) and yet he is mentally not there. For example, he tries to hang clothes all over his apartment without hangers and does not think about getting hangars (until I mentioned it to him.) He buys funiture that is about 1000 dollars yet refuses to buy a 5 dollar screwdriver to put the stuff together. He buys canned food and yet never even considers buying a can opener. The thought never enters his mind. How can I bring him back to reality? What may be causing this non-sensical behavior?

Not to mention the finances. I will not mention details of this however he is my roomate and the person I am supposedly be sharing expenses with. He cares about rent yet does not get the idea that saving money may actual help him with this. He can’t seem get the concept to his head. Help please.
He does not shave, wash himself nor his uniform for work unless I yell at him for it. May I remind you this is a 25 year old man I am talking about. Imagining having to babysit someone which in his own words says The basic concepts don’t enter my mind, ever. Common sense is something he his lacking very much and it is to the point I have to baby him to do what a normal person does for themself.
I am not offended by suggesting he is stupid. However since he is my brother and finding people I can get along with is very dificult, I do want to help him out before bailing out on him. However, I am not his mother, not his father nor babysitter and should not have be one of those roles while I am his roomate.
No, he does not make alot of money. He works a minium wage job. Saving money should be the way he should handle future exspenses.
He one time tried to row a canoe to Russia. I am not kidding.
