Money Saving Deal

My Toshiba just bit the dust and I need to replace it as quickly as possible. I **** Dell (as should anyone who’s ever had to deal with their “support” staff), and am looking for alternatives. It needs to be fast, reliable, wireless, have a large hard drive, and be preferably not much more than $1000. Also, can I install my Microsoft Office from my backup cds instead of having to purchase a new copy with the new computer? That would help with the saving money thing.

For christmas I was going to go out and spend $600-1000 on a new laptop I had been saving for. I only want one to play games on because it will be my first. I was introduced to the Mini Laptop ASUS. Asus wasn’t a common brand so I looked at mini Dell laptops. They are about $300-400 and have plenty of memory on them for games, but I don’t know if they will work the ideal way a regular laptop does. And it says the drives are stripped so they have nothing on the computer. I really want this, but is it a good deal? Or a cheap bargain for a mini computer that won’t work long??

I was thinking about saving my money from now until right before Christmas and buying a computer (laptop) .. Do you think thats a good idea? Do you think I could get a good deal? I do not make alot of money, so I need to get the most for my money.

I was thinking about ordering from Dell.com … Any Reccommendations?

Any Feedback Appreciated

My father has bought a new laptop. It’s pretty decent, has long battery life (was told it was 6hrs..unsure about that though), vista, dvd recorder, etc… I’d like to use it for classes due to the battery life.

Unfortunately, my father got it at a bargain deal (that’s all he’ll ever shop for), and the warranty is estimated at about 50% the cost of the laptop itself. Due to this my father said he won’t take out a warranty on it.

I feel uncomfortable with saving important files on a laptop that I’ll be carrying around, knowing that if something happens to it then that’ll be it. My father, who never uses computers, doesn’t understand my concern with saving files onto a computer that he says we can just “throw away” if it breaks.

Your opinions - should I refuse to use it or try it out? I’m not accident prone or anything like that, but I figure there’s always bound to be a problem occur.
Update: I”m not complaining. I am merely being precautious. There is a big difference between the two.
