Money Saving Deal

I am planning my wedding for next January (2007). My fiance and I are on a very limited budget - I’m a chef/teacher and he is a full-time student planning to graduate this December. I need any money saving suggestions and location ideas (in the Dallas, Rockwall, Hunt, Collin County areas of Texas) anyone might have. I will probably end up doing my own cake unless anyone knows of someone great and cheap, but I don’t really want to do my own catering - at this rate we may not even do food. Please help!

Is there any crazy ideas that anyone has heard of for raising engagement ring money? How about adding advertising to the wedding pamphlet, soliciting on youtube, begging at the corner, selling my body? Any suggestions would be appreciated. btw, I am already delivering pizza 5 nights a week to save cash and pay off debt before I pop the question. THanks

I keep getting price quotes from different venues and they seem to be “regular” prices? Am I supposed to negotiate for a better deal? Or are most places just the same price year-round? I live in So. CA, where the weather doesn’t really change much but I’ve worked in special events/catering and it gets REALLY slow in January. You would think I’d get a good rate if people are dying for business to come their way. Any advice? I’d **** to have to pay over $7000 for just the reception for 100 people.
We don’t have the “backyard” option… my family is 3,000mi away in the Caribbean. His mom’s backyard is really small (it is L.A. afterall, I know backyards are larger in other states, but not here). I want to keep the ceremony and reception in the same location, and I don’t want to have to rent everything myself ( I know what a nightmare it is to deal with rental companies).
Oh and I almost forgot… with enough notice, people can take advantage of all the Christmas sales to get wedding presents at great prices! :o)
