Read the classifieds in the paper. But what you absolutely MUST do is find out the history of the car. There are a whole bunch of cars flooded during Katrina and subsequently totalled by the insurance companies. These are being cleaned up and re-sold. Never ever ever keep a car that has been submerged.

Financing a used car with bad credit could get very expensive. Every dealer will try and take advantage of you, regardless if they are new car dealer or used.

Expect 50% downpayment and 12-20% APR. The best way is to purchase with cash from a private seller. But make sure to pay the $100 and have it thoroughly checked out by AAA or a mechanic.
