Since we don’t have much money saved up, her dad (my in-law) brought up the idea to help us with the down payment. The deal is this i believe the dad brought in the deal. The deal is this that the house will be bought under my name and wife’s name. The house will be for the purpose of saving money that we pay for taxes, because last year we payed a large amount of money on taxes a little over the 6 thousand. Anyways, we were told that if we become home owners then we wouldn’t have to pay as much, for which is very obvious to me. The deal also includes that the house will be sold after a 5 years, but the money that the house will make, it will be split among my wife’s siblings and me. how rediculous is that? I don’t know. Do you think this is rediculous? Would you get into this deal if you were me? Would you feel that you are thinking of taking advantage of you? I did and I couldn’t sleep for about a freak’n week. If you guys think of anything to say to them please include it. Thank u.
I decided to save up for our own selves and the deal is ours only.
No I didn’t think it was free money. I never take anything for free. What I decided is that we save our own money we get our own home. and if we ever need her dady’s help he will be paid back in full.
You guys have given me your point of views that I didn’t know existed. I truely appreciate your opinions, it has help me put my thoughts together, I thought I was being selfish and unreasonable to deny such deal or offer.
thats exactly what my wife thinks that I was selfish and I never think of her first. I was like what???? What??? Does she knows what she is saying?

That is a very bad deal. Tell them thanks but no thanks, you’d rather wait and do it on your own. Try looking into various housing and loan assistance programs in your area. There are plenty of people that buy houses without a large down payment, so it is possible.

I would think you need a financial advisor to help you see if you should be in the deal or not. How much down is he helping you pay? How will it be split among your wife’s siblings and you, 50/50? Perhaps you should make a proposal and see if you are really being taken advantage of. If your dad-in-law is paying a whole lot of down, then I think he should be getting at least something back in 5 years. Did you think it was just free money? Think of this on a business standpoint - your father in law is investing in this house of yours, and he just wants his stake back in the future..
