We’re coming down from Oklahoma and looking for a nice beach community/resort area. We would like as short a drive as possible (meaning something located at the Northern tip of the Gulf of Mexico in Texas. Just for a 2 night, weekend trip and we’re leaving in 7 days so the weather should be as it is now and there’s little time to get a room in advance to save cash.

We were thinking about Galveston but would like something both a little less touristy and a little cheaper.

We were looking at Freeport but it’s hard to find good info. on the web.

Any thoughts on Freeport or Galveston or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The rowing machine is made by this company called Concept2. The rower is a little bit more than $800.
These two choices seem like a pretty big difference in terms of amount of money, but they’re not really.
Last time I went to the Philippines with 2 former [Filipino] co-workers (husband & wife), his elderly parents, & their toddler son, was in 2004. It cost $800 round-trip & I brought $800 in cash (cash advance on my credit card) cuz they were going to take care of my lodging, etc. & I wanted to give back. A few months ago, they asked me to come with them in March 2008 to go to their other son’s graduation from high school in the Philippines. In March, it’s really hot & it’s not a popular time for travel, so fares should be cheap. Even if I got an $800 air fare round trip, I’d still have to come up w/ at least $400 if I at least wanted to buy stuff to bring back. I really really want to go but I really really want to get ripped too using the rower (full body workout). What do I do?

We are going to Disney World next week! This is not our first trip, but it is our first trip where we are on an extremely tight budget. What is your favorite tip for saving money and still having fun while on a tight budget? We are staying at a hotel that offers free breakfast, so that meal is covered. We are bringing water bottles to save money on buying overpriced sodas at the park. Can I sneak in snacks? We’ll be eating lunch at the theme parks and possibly dinner on some days. I’m interested in knowing some tricks of other budget conscious travelers for meals or otherwise. Thanks!
