Money Saving Deal

Going to apply for a mortgage, should I put my down payment cash in a savings account?

tigres_13 asked:

I have x amount of dollars for the down payment for my first home in cash. If I were to put that into a savings account and then apply for a mortgage, would that look better on me? I was thinking it was a way to prove that I really did have the money instead of the banker just taking my word for it. What other good steps should I take before applying for a mortgage?
